Go back

I apologize for the recent outages. Writer depends on domain name service from Namecheap.com and they are currently recovering from a denial of service attack. Everything should be back to normal soon.

Hey, folks! Just wanted to let you know that offline support was quietly rolled out last week and is in operation right now. You don't have to do anything to activate it except use Writer like you normally do. Offline support is currently in beta status until I'm sure all the kinks have been worked out. Please let me know how it's working for you.

Here's how it works today. When you are online and you save a document, that document will then be available offline. Only documents that you save while you are online are available offline. I may introduce the ability to make all of your online documents available offline (but it's actually quite complicated because different browsers have different storage limits and offline storage in web browsers is actually kind of a mess).

When you are offline, you can work on existing documents and create new ones. If you're on a Chromebook or using the Chrome application, you should notice that the app icon stays active when you are offline (if not, your app may not have updated to the latest version yet). When you connect to the internet again and visit Writer, any new documents you created offline will be automagically synced to your online storage. Any documents you modified will save online when you open and save them again.

But basically, you don't need to worry about whether you're online or offline anymore. It all just sort of works seamlessly without you needing to do anything special.

Again, please let me know how it's working for you and especially if you run into any problems with it so I can get those problems fixed as quickly as possible. Thanks!

Also, Writer Pro Lifetime accounts are back! Check out the Pro upgrade page for more info.
